Join the SFS

The Society for French Studies is a major learned association that promotes French Studies in the United Kingdom and beyond. We hope you'll find all the information you need about our many activities on this site. If you have any queries, please get in touch with a member of the executive committee, or come and talk to us at the next SFS conference!

In addition to academics from a range of different countries, our membership includes librarians, curators and postgraduate students. Membership is open to anyone who wishes to support the aims and activities of the Society. A reduced rate is available to retired members, postgraduate students, members not in full-time employment, and new lecturers in their first three years in post.

What are the benefits of membership?

As a member of the Society, you will:

  • Receive all four hard-copy issues of French Studies: a Quarterly Review published in the year of your membership and have access to all four online issues of French Studies: a Quarterly Bulletin.
  • Online access to the archive of French Studies: A Quarterly Review from its first issue in 1947 (more complete access than is typically available through institutional subscriptions).
  • Enjoy preferential rates when registering for our annual conference.
  • Be eligible for a range of funding offered by the Society, including for research expenses and organising conferences and workshops.
  • Support the work of the discipline by helping the Society to fund innovative and outstanding research, support early-career academics, and foster international collaborations.

It is worth noting that the annual subscription is treated as an ‘allowable expense’ by the Inland Revenue for Income Tax purposes.

How do you join?
